A $10,000 cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest or indictment of those responsible for the death of a 16-year-old girl discovered on a West Side playground this week.
A passerby discovered Kaylah Love’s body near the playground at Horan Park, 3035 West Van Buren, around 4:50 p.m. Monday. The woman told police that she called 911 the day before after witnessing a man beating a woman in the same spot. She thought Kaylah was the person she witnessed being attacked.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office stated Kaylah died as a result of various injuries sustained during an attack. The officials reported that they had battered and stabbed Kaylah in the head.
According to the dispatch records of the Chicago police, at least two people called 911 to report a guy hitting a lady at the same place about 7:44 p.m. Sunday evening. One of the callers stated that they witnessed the man throw a bottle at the woman. Officers reported that the offender was a black male in his teens who was dressed in full black.
At least two CPD units responded to the park, but they did not see any fighting, and the assignment was “coded out,” which means the event did not require a formal report.
Kaylah’s family last saw the Manley Career Academy sophomore last Sunday, when she informed them she was going to McDonald’s. They reported her missing since she did not return home.
Cook County Crime Stoppers is now giving up to $10,000 in cash for information that will assist in solving the case. Tipsters who choose to remain anonymous may still be eligible for the award because the organization will issue a unique code to use as an identifier.
Information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 800-535-STOP, tips@cookcountycrimestoppers.org, or online at p3tips.com.
